This book is the introduction to the world of Earden, volume I in what will be a five part series. The reader is immediately drawn into the story, as the characters are interesting and believable. The narrative fits well within the fantasy genre, without being tired or reminiscent of other stories. The central setting for the book was a wayside inn (Inn of the Swan), bringing disparate characters and events together (and tearing them apart). I finished the book quickly, as I did not want to put it down, and immediately went on to the next book. A good read!
